When my daughter, Amy, died from cancer, my world shriveled up. Painting helped heal my pain and bring color back into my life. In this class YOU will connect with YOUR heart. Please Join me on a painting journey, along with Saint Bernadette, to reclaim your joy. Saint Bernadette (1844-1879) discovered the healing water in the caves at Lourdes, France. She was a poor young girl looking for firewood in the cave when Mother Mary appeared to her telling her to build a church at that site. This church is now known as the cathedral of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. I was so inspired when I read Bernadette's story and her experience with Mother Mary. Bernadette said that there was something in her that enabled her to rise above everything and she was not afraid. I knew I needed to paint with Saint Bernadette. I would love to share this process and my experience with you. Thank you! Joyce Merrick

ABOUT ME

I have been painting in the method called intentional creativity for 3 years, ever since the death of my daughter, Amy. Painting helped comfort me and I felt a connection with the Divine.
I live in Northern Michigan with my husband, a dog, cat and 5 horses. I find so much peace in nature and love my woodsy surroundings. We've also lived in Ann Arbor,
Northern California and Fiji, My current work is in the impressionist symbolic style. I teach intentional creativity classes locally and also have an on-line healing program entitled PAINT YOUR BROKEN HEART. I've been painting for years and have studied with various artists. I graduated from Siena Heights University with a BA in Humanities. During my studies at Siena Heights, I had many art classes, including art therapy. I am not a certified art therapist but can surely pass along my personal experience with the benefits of artmaking in my healing journey. I believe the spontaneous creation of art offers a way to memorialize the relationship with the deceased and facilitate continuing bonds. Art making is a restorative and assertive act that produced new insights and understanding for me.
